Langham Place, New York, Fifth Avenue Debuts World-class Art Collection by American Master Alex Katz

Living art world legend will be showcased as the permanent art collection at Langham Place, New York

Langham Place, New York, Fifth Avenueunveiled a world-class art collection featuring the work of one living American master, New York native Alex Katz as part of the hotel’s 2015 renovation.

“I chose Alex Katz’s work to be featured exclusively at Langham Place, New York because it best embodies the liveliness of New York City,” said Dr. K.S. Lo, chairman of Langham Hospitality Group. “From the time we purchased the hotel, I knew Alex Katz was the perfect artist to be affiliated with the property.  His work exudes sophistication and prominently features the kind of personalities that are acutely representative of our guests.”

Dr. Lo and the team at Langham Place, New York chose a selection of ten original art works, lithographs, and block prints to be prominently featured within the hotel. These originals are hung in the lobby and were a major part of the event space renovation on the third floor, now called The Gallery at Langham Place.  In addition, a series of prints have been created specifically for the guest floor corridors and are being placed in the guest rooms and suites.

The two original oil paintings in the lobby – both named Trio – were chosen because of their representation of people in profile, which is a reflection of the image of people walking by on Fifth Avenue that anyone sitting in the newly refurbished lobby sees through the hotel’s floor-to-ceiling windows at street level.  The other original art works are all portraits of people from Alex Katz’s personal life, including his wife Ada, who he has painted over 230 times throughout his career.

Our art collection will easily rival that of any other luxury hotel in the city,” said Richard Bussiere, managing director of Langham Place, New York. “Dr. Lo has ensured that the art in our hotel will reflect a style that is distinctively New York City, as well as the vibrancy of our address. We are grateful to be able to showcase Alex Katz’s work in such a unique forum.”

Langham Place, New York is centrally located at 400 Fifth Avenue, at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 36th Street. Its 214 guest rooms and suites are some of the largest in the city. Having recently completed the first phase of a renovation by acclaimed interior designers Meyer Davis, Langham Place boasts a residentially-inspired aesthetic, topped off by a multi-million dollar permanent art collection featuring the works of Alex Katz. Foodies will enjoy Ai Fiori, a Michelin-starred restaurant from Michael White’s Altamarea Group, located on the hotel’s second floor. Langham Place also has the capabilities to host meetings, events and social gatherings of all sizes in The Gallery at Langham Place, a full floor of function space on the hotel’s third floor.
