THE LANGHAM, CHICAGO RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS LEED® GOLD-GREEN BUILDING CERTIFICATION

(CHICAGO, IL)—The Langham, Chicago (330 N. Wabash Ave.) announces the recognition of LEED® Gold Level of Certification award. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

"The Langham, Chicago's LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership," Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council says. "The urgency of USGBC's mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and The Langham serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish."

The Langham, Chicago achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

For example, The Langham utilizes the AMA building’s recycling program that allows the hotel to recycle paper and cardboard for reuse in the office building. Inncom, a temperature controlled thermostat and lighting system featured in each guestroom, defaults the temperature in unoccupied rooms to 70-76 degrees along with queuing lights to shut off when guests exit the room. The hotel uses CFL 13W and LED 14W energy-saving light bulbs, that  use 70 percent less energy than standard incandescent light bulbs. In addition to composting kitchen waste, The Langham also employs the LEED-Certified Integrated Pest Management (IPM) System, which eliminates regular pesticide application and combines several strategies to achieve long-term solutions for pest control.

“With our constant efforts of design innovation for The Langham brand, we’ve also placed a great deal of importance in energy efficiency and sustainable efforts,” Managing Director Robert Schofield says. “We’re thrilled to receive this prestigious recognition, as this award confirms our goals for energy proficiency, the selection of environment-friendly materials and resources, and indoor air quality.”

LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. Over 44,000 projects are currently participating in the commercial and institutional LEED rating systems, comprising over 8 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 120 countries.
