chuan body + soul at the Langham. new York, introduces traditional Chinese medicine art of cupping

Ancient treatment based on Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat variety of conditions added to menu of offerings at Midtown luxury hotel spa

October 2019, New York, NY Chuan Body + Soul, the full-service luxury spa at The Langham, New York, Fifth Avenue, lives up to its brand promise of offering the most innovative treatments in New York City by adding the traditional healing art of cupping to its menu of offerings.

As part of the Chuan Spa brand, created by Langham Hospitality Group in Hong Kong, the menu at Chuan Body + Soul, New York is entirely based on the tenets of Traditional Chinese Medicine. All treatments are accompanied by a questionnaire, wherein the staff at Chuan Body + Soul are able to ascertain which of the five Chinese elements needs to be addressed in that particular guest’s treatment on that day, as well as traditional elemental tea service.

“Cupping is based on the belief that by creating vacuums using cups on specific points of a patient’s body, the life force within that person’s body can be restored to its equilibrium,” said Douglas Chu, certified therapist and Chuan Body + Soul cupping practitioner. “All obstructions, pain and inflammations are removed to promote a sense of peace and well-being. Cupping promotes blood flow and calms the nervous system while improving blood circulation. It is more natural and non-invasive technique and treatment to help heal and prevent future health problems.”

Cupping will be available as part of the robust menu of body, skin and facial treatments currently on offer at Chuan Body + Soul. Appointments with Douglas will be available every Wednesday from 330 pm until 7 pm.

Douglas is a twenty year spa industry veteran. Having spent the majority of his career as a massage therapist, he is a graduate of the Swedish Institute and, in addition to cupping, he specializes in various forms of Swedish, medical and sports massage techniques, including aromatherapy massage, myofascial treatments and neuromuscular therapy, as well as Reiki.
