SECOND HONG KONG MICHELIN GUIDE NOW STARS EVEN MORE LANGHAM RESTAURANTS
Three Restaurants Earn 5 Michelin Stars confirms Group Culinary Excellence
4 December, 2009
With the launch of the second Michelin Guide for Hong Kong, five Michelin Stars were announced for three Cantonese restaurants run by
Langham Hotels, cementing the group’s reputation for regional culinary excellence.
Adding to the three stars earned in the first guide, two more coveted Michelin Stars were earned for 2010 –
Ming Court at
Langham Place, Mongkok garnered its second while Yat Tung Heen, Wan Chai, earned its first. The awards make it the first group in Hong Kong to have three restaurant brands represented in the prestigious guide.
Ming Court in Langham Place takes its place alongside sister restaurant,
T’ang Court in
The Langham’s two Star Michelin Star restaurant.
Bob van den Oord, Vice President – Sales & Marketing said: “Recognition by Michelin is one of the holy grails of the culinary world and we’re delighted that three of our restaurant brands – T’ang Court, Ming Court and Yat Tung Heen have earned their stars in a city that’s fiercely proud of its dining reputation and exceptionally strong opinions on food.”
Elsewhere in the group,
The Dining Room at
The Langham, Huntington Hotel, Pasadena earns its spurs as the only hotel-run restaurant to earn a Michelin Star in the Los Angeles guide.
T’ang Court at The Langham, Hong Kong
T’ang Court, home to elegant, enchanting Michelin star food, is no stranger to awards. This fine dining Cantonese restaurant has garnered many accolades including Hotel Magazine’s Top 10 Hotel Restaurants.
T’ang Court was named on US Food and Wine Magazine’s "Go list 2008” and also received a Gold with Distinction Medal in The Best of the Best Culinary Awards organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board two years in a row.
Travel+ Leisure has also listed T'ang Court as one of only ten restaurants worldwide on its annual Hot List of the World's 100 Fabulous Places and Things.
Ming Court at Langham Place, Mongkok, Hong Kong
Ming Court opened in 2005 with the completion of the Langham Place complex providing modern cutting edge Michelin star Cantonese cuisine. Since opening the restaurant has been led by executive chef Tsang Chiu King and restaurant manager Frank Chan.
Yat Tung Heen, Wanchai, Hong Kong
Yat Tung Heen presents an extensive menu of approachable and friendly Michelin star Cantonese cuisine in elegant and contemporary surroundings. The restaurant is popular for its dim sum, double boiled soup and traditional take on fresh seafood.
The Dining Room, Pasadena, Los Angeles, USA
The only hotel-run restaurant in Los Angeles to be awarded the coveted Michelin Star. Renowned for service with poise,
The Dining Room also received exceptional scores in the 2009 Zagat Los Angeles/Southern California Restaurant guide.
Chef de Cuisine Michael Voltaggio’s celebrated style is described as new American cuisine using classic discipline and modern trends, and he delights in utilising the bounty of seasonal produce that California offers while showcasing the best quality ingredients from around the globe.
The Michelin Star System
The MICHELIN Guide was introduced in 1926 to identify the best restaurants based on five criteria - the quality of the products; the mastery of flavour and cooking; the "personality" of the cuisine; value for money and consistency between visits.
Michelin stars are awarded to restaurants offering the finest cooking, regardless of cuisine style. Stars represent only what is on the plate. They do not take into consideration interior decoration, service quality or table settings.
A two star restaurant is said to have ‘excellent cuisine, worth a detour’ while a one star restaurant is defined as a ‘very good restaurant in its category’.
