LANGHAM HOTELS BUILDS ON AFTERNOON TEA HERITAGE WITH NEW SIGNATURE BLENDS
October 25, 2011
Langham Hospitality Group continues to build on its afternoon tea heritage with the launch of four new tea blends which can be enjoyed in the hotel's elegant surroundings or purchased as a memory of an enchanting stay.
The creation of four specially-created signature blends follows the recent commemorative global afternoon tea party on June 10 which offered this quintessential English tradition at 1865 prices. It also celebrated The Langham's birthday and its place in history as the first grand hotel in Europe to first host the genteel custom of afternoon tea.
New Tea Blends Celebrate Langham Heritage
The Langham Blend – a sophisticated mix of first and second flush Assam, Darjeelings and Tippy Golden Orange Pekoe black teas that have been blended to create a refined and rounded signature tea drinking experience.
Silk Road Blend – is the true height of decadence using the finest Chinese Silver Needle white teas blended with aromatic jasmine and Iranian rosebuds – a truly aromatic and evocative Silk Road experience.
English Flower Blend – The English countryside is brought to life into the elegant surroundings of The Langham. Featuring chamomile, rose petals, elderflowers, heather flowers, lavender and cornflowers, this herbal and floral blend is the perfect tonic for relaxing after-shopping conversation.
Palm Court Exotic Blend – A true English rose with delicate soft pink hues playing homage to Palm Court – the original home of afternoon tea. With its perfect blend of Chinese Fujian white tea: hibiscus flowers, rosehip peel and rose petals, drinkers will appreciate its gentle sophistication.
Paul Walters, Vice President – Brands said: "The introduction of the Langham Tea Blends is a natural innovation and extension of our heritage. We've drawn inspiration from our history and the world of tea drinking. Guests can now take home with them a fond memory and taste of The Langham with a tea blend that matches their taste any time of day."
Afternoon Tea is acknowledged as one of the most elegant and sophisticated of dining occasions. The first afternoon tea at The Langham, London, was served in the Salle À Manger (Now Palm Court) for the princely sum of 1 shilling 6 pence. Billed as Teas, Plain – the first afternoon tea simply consisted of simple but dainty items including cakes, sweets, bread and butter and, of course, tea.
Today, all The Langhams across the globe still offers a traditional afternoon tea that includes scones, freshly made jams, sandwiches and other sweet delicacies with a selection of fine teas. It also continues to be an innovator offering luxury variations including the Tea Royale designed to celebrate the recent Royal Wedding.
The luxurious ritual of Afternoon Tea was created in 1840 by Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, who served it to ward off hunger pangs in the long hours between lunch and dinner. Soon, her personal indulgence grew into an experience to be shared with her friends. As hostesses started to host afternoon tea events, a timeless luxury institution was born.
