Dine with us at The Fed and Grana
With the hotel re-opening at the end of the month, it is with great pleasure that we share our new dining concepts with you all. We're continuing our video series with Shawmut Design and Construction by taking you behind the scenes for a first look at The Fed and Grana.
We have so many memories of our guests joining us for dinner, drinks, brunch and more and we are ecstatic that we are so close to doing so once again. Both of these new spaces bring in the heritage of this beautiful property and the promise of all the amazing things to come for our new American classic.
Let’s start by taking a look at The Fed. The Fed is our new Cocktail Pub. Inspired by the classic British pub, the Fed will be a place to meet new friends and reconnect with old. Located on the lobby level of the hotel, the bar will have both indoor and outdoor seating thanks to our new terrace. There are lots of little touches that pay homage to the property’s Federal Reserve Bank of Boston history. Guests will notice the safety-deposit-box-style millwork on the shelving unit separating the bar from the lobby. Both guests in the lobby and in the bar will be able to glimpse through this shelving unit, creating a buzzing ambiance throughout the day.
Continuing the classic, yet modern design found throughout the hotel, the bar is topped with another beautiful piece of Italian marble, giving diners a grand place to relax and enjoy a craft cocktail.
Creating access to the outdoor terrace was no easy feat, our teams had to cut through two feet of exterior wall in order to create this new doorway. Our new outdoor terrace will be a place for friends, colleagues and families to gather alfresco and we have even installed a limited-edition bronze sculpture to punctuate the space.
Moving onto Grana, our new signature restaurant at The Langham, Boston. Set in what was once the Grand Hall of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Grana will serve approachable Italian cuisine. When we were initially designing the renovation for the hotel in 2018, we pulled back the carpet and found the original ornate terrazzo floor. It was so spectacular that we knew we had to not only restore it, but also make it a centerpiece of the new restaurant.
We partnered with DePaoli Mosaic Company to repair a few areas where the terrazzo was damaged and their 100+ years of experience with mosaics and flooring made them the perfect choice. Their team custom color matched the new terrazzo to the original flooring and the brass Federal Reserve seal remains at the center of the room, which we protected throughout construction.
We also chose to restore the floral reliefs on the ceiling and had them adorned with gold leaf, giving Grana the grandeur it deserves. Guests will enjoy Grana’s plush velvet furniture and stylish artwork throughout the space, making this the place you’ll want to dine for all of life’s special occasions—both big and small!
We are so proud to have restored the glamour of the 1920s, while also creating a space for generations to come and we can’t wait to have you all visit both these amazing restaurants to experience it all for yourself.
Our reopening is just weeks away so stay tuned for more sneak peeks of our beautifully restored hotel, so be sure to subscribe to our Newsletter and follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for lots more exciting updates.
