Chocolate Bar High Tea

August 2018... Calling all card-carrying chocoholics, Deepak Mishra, Executive Chef of The Langham, Melbourne, is pleased to announce the introduction of a new Chocolate Bar High Tea menu.

Every weekend from Saturday 1 September until the end of 2018**, Aria Bar & Lounge will be a magnet for chocolate lovers and devotees of the tradition of high tea.

"Our brigade of pastry chefs have devoted hours and hours to taste-testing and playing with dozens of chocolate from across the globe to create our latest menu," explains Mishra. "Picture Charlie and the Chocolate Factory meets an episode of MasterChef and you get the idea of what our pastry kitchen has been like," adds Mishra.

Chocolate will be showcased in many guises, from the unexpected pairing of Granny Smith apple and white chocolate and frangipane served in a bite-sized layer cake to the rich, mouth-watering 55% bitter chocolate terrine with raspberry croquant, the new menu is designed to delight and surprise the most die-hard chocolate purist and novice chocolate addict alike.

The virtually unlimited Chocolate Bar dessert buffet (guests are encouraged to revisit to their appetite’s content) also features tiers of Belgian milk chocolate and Vittoria coffee éclairs with caramel pearls, miniature dark chocolate and hazelnut tarts with gianduja mousse, white chocolate and passionfruit pops that truly provide a flavour explosion via a hint of citrusy yuzu, a chocolate cannoli filled with coconut, Malibu gel, white chocolate and berry cream, a Bailey’s Irish cream panna cotta with coffee crumbs and chocolate spaghetti, a strawberry jelly and cream cheese layered dome with pistachio sponge and a citrus, vanilla and white chocolate mousse.

If that’s not enough to satisfy chocolate cravings, guests are also served a warm dessert of chocolate and raspberry pot au crème, sandwiches and warm savoury dishes including a tiny forest mushroom, truffle and parsnip pie, braised Wagyu beef fritter with smoked chipotle aioli and truffled macaroni and cheese en cocotte with bacon crumbs.

Sandwich fillings are an assortment from a twist on traditional cucumber finger sandwiches; a triple-decker version is layered with refreshing citrus cream cheese, mint, lime and compressed cucumber while a beetroot bagel is topped with Yarra Valley smoked salmon with calamansi curd, asparagus and salmon roe. A ham and cheese sandwich is reinvented with a Swiss cheese roll filled with honey-glazed ham and sweet mango relish and a rare roast beef roll with Pommery mustard and horseradish mayonnaise is given a 2018 update with the addition of a house-made balsamic onion marmalade.

Diners are also served two types of scones. Guests can enjoy traditional buttermilk scones for which The Langham, Melbourne is renowned as well as lemon verbena and lavender scones. Both are accompanied by strawberry and rose preserve, lemon curd and fresh, clotted cream

The decadent, no-need-for-dinner, Chocolate Bar High Tea is also served with a glass of premium sparkling wine on arrival and unlimited Wedgwood loose leaf tea, espresso-based coffee or hot chocolate.

It’s quite possibly Melbourne’s most indulgent high tea to date.
